College of Water Conservancy, Yunnan Agricultural University, is the first water conservancy college in Yunnan province. It can be traced back to 1965. First teachers of agricultural water conservancy were consisted of East China Technical University of Water Resources (Hohai University), Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering (Wuhan University), and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Department of Water Conservancy was established in May, 1966. Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering Architecture was set as Bachler degree. College of Engineering Technology was established with the combination of Department of Water Conservancy and Department of Agricultural Machinery Engineering in 1993. College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Architecture was established based on the former Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering in College of Engineering Technology in 2001. It was renamed as College of Water Conservancy in 2012. Now it is a characteristic college which focus on water conservancy science.
There are 93 staffs in our college including 89 full-time teacher, 14 professor, 37 associate professor, 2 outstanding teachers of Yunnan double ten thousand plan, 1 industrial technology leading talent of Yunnan province, and 4 outstanding young scholars. There are many teams including Reginal Land Optimum Distribution and Ecological Renovation Science Technology Innovation Team in South-east Diversity Ministry of Natural Resources, Postgraduate Tutor Team of Intelligent Agricultural Water Soil Engineering of Yunnan Province, Agricultural Water Soil Engineering Teaching Team of Institution of Higher Education at Yunnan Province, and Scientific and Technological Innovation Team of Remediation and Utilization of Farmland Production Obstacles of Institution of Higher Education at Yunnan Province.
There are 4 departments including Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Department of Agricultural Water Soil Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, and Department of Water Resources and Water Conservation. There are 7 undergraduate majors including Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control, Land Reclamation Engineering, and Water Engineering. Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering and Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering have passed Engineering Education Professional Certification. Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering has been certified as the National Fist-class Major. Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering and Civil Engineering have been certified as Provincial Fist-class Major.
There are many master degree gifts in our college including First-level Disciplines of Master Degree of Water Conservancy Engineering, First-level Disciplines of master degree of Agricultural Engineering (Agricultural Water Soil Engineering, Agricultural Hydraulic Construction，and Remote Sensing for Natural Resources and Environment), Master Degree of Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy. Doctor Degree of Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy, and Doctor Degree of Agricultural Engineering are ranked as Key Training Projects of Doctor degree by Yunnan Provincial Education Board. There are 2065 students consisting of 1965 undergraduate students and 100 postgraduates.
There are 3 provincial and national engineering laboratory and technology research center in our college (Yunnan Agricultural Water Saving Engineering Technology Research Center, Ministry of Natural Resources Yunnan Intermountain Basin Land Use Field Scientific Observation and Research Station, Yunnan Laboratory of Land Resources Utilization and Protection Engineering) and National Innovation Experimental Zone of Agricultural Engineering Entrepreneurial Talents Training Mode in Frontier Ethnic Areas and Jinning Dachunhe Talent Training Base of Agricultural Science and Education Cooperation. We also have Yunnan Agricultural Engineering Foundation Experiment Teaching Center, Yunnan High Educated College Water Resources and Water Saving Irrigation Center, Yunnan High Educated College Agricultural Remote Sensing and Precision Agriculture Engineering Research Center, Provincial Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center of Mechanics and Engineering. Moreover, we also have Intelligent Water Conservancy BIM Engineering Center, Virtual Simulation Engineering Technology Development of Digital Twins Water Conservancy, Intelligent Water Conservancy Equipment Engineering Center, and Remote Sensing and Digital Environment Center.
Our college has cultivated nearly 10,000 professional and technical personnel of water conservancy and civil engineering as a talent training cradle of Yunnan water conservancy project. Many of them have become leaders or technological back bone at Yunnan water conservancy, agriculture, and architecture areas. They have played a very important role at Yunnan water conservancy project development. At the background of Water Conservancy High Quality Development Strategy of Water for Yunnan Project, our college has welcome in a new development chance. We will continue to keep our college motto “Use water for Self-inspection. Study more and have good behaviors”, promote realistic spirit, and keep development and innovation to improve education level and qualities continuously. In this way, we will make more contributions to national and locational economic and social development.
