The research center was recognized by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Science and Technology in October 2012, and was built on the basis of the " Universities in Yunnan Water Resources and Water-Saving Irrigation Engineering Research Center" and "Yunnan Agricultural University Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Water-Saving Irrigation". In view of the serious seasonal water shortage problem in Yunnan Province, the center develops modern water-saving agriculture, and establishes a professional platform of research and development and demonstration of agricultural water-saving technology in Yunnan Province with introduction of agricultural water-saving related technologies and equipments, and integration of the existing resources of supporting and participating units. The platform provides technical support and services for the agricultural water-saving field in Yunnan Province.
The existing laboratory area is 900 square meters, the experimental base is 7.6 mu, and the total value of instruments and equipment is more than 2.8 million yuan. While conducting scientific research and engineering practice, the center recruits and trains postgraduates based on the master program of "Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering" and the provincial key disciplines of Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering. After years of development, it has basically formed a teaching, scientific research and practice base integrating "production, learning and research".
The total number of people in the center is 45, including 37 with intermediate titles and above, and 26 with senior titles. The main research directions are efficient utilization and rational allocation of water resources, water conservancy information technology, and agricultural water saving theory and technology. The landmark achievements include the optimal allocation of water resources and the consultation and design of water conservancy projects; complete sets of water conservancy informatization technologies; promotion and application of water-saving irrigation technologies. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 60 vertical and horizontal projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, and received more than 15 million yuan in funding.
